CM meets officials to discuss construction of the Zoo

REGIONAL, May 02, 2024: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma held a review meeting with officials from the Forest and Environment Department to evaluate the progress of the ongoing construction of the Meghalaya Zoo. The zoo, located in Umtrew in Ri-Bhoi, covers an area of 72 hectares.
During the meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister that construction is almost complete and the zoo will soon be open to the public. They also provided updates on various initiatives being implemented by the department to provide facilities for visitors, especially children, such as an interpretation center.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the zoo should be a major attraction for tourists and visitors who are interested in learning about the diverse biodiversity of Meghalaya. He also suggested that the department should oversee the overall management of the zoo, while day-to-day operations should be handled by professionals who are capable of managing ticketing, parking, restaurants, and other facilities to enhance the visitor experience.
