NATIONAL, April 22, 2024: The Election Commission has formed a task force to monitor heat wave conditions before each phase of the Lok Sabha polls. The task force includes officials from the Election Commission, IMD, National Disaster Management Authority and the Ministry of Health.
They will assess the impact of heat waves and humidity five days before each polling phase and take necessary measures to address any concerns. The Commission will also hold a separate review with State Chief Electoral Officers to ensure that polling stations are equipped with necessary facilities such as shamiyanas, drinking water, fans, and other basic amenities.
The Director General of IMD has assured the Election Commission that there are no major concerns regarding heat waves for the second phase of the General Elections on 26th of this month. The weather forecast for the 13 states and the UTs going to the polls in this phase is normal.
However, in light of reports of above normal temperatures and heat waves in certain parts of the country, the Commission held a meeting with concerned agencies to discuss the developing weather situation and plan measures to mitigate any risks. The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
