Shillong Rocks with Mr. Big

The music capital of North East, Shillong rocked on October 27 with Eric Martin - the voice of Mr. Big as he sang popular number like - To be with you, the wild cry and others. To watch the concert music loving

crowd from different parts of North East and other parts of country flocked down in this pine city. This is Eric Martins' first visit to India and the only performance. Excited with the frenzy music loving crowd, Eric declared to come to India in near future for more concerts. As he came up to stage to set the crowd rock with his voice, Eric said 'Khublei Shibun Shillong' in Khasi which means Thank You Shillong and started off with his numbers.   

The crowds rolled in with his voice singing with him. The chilling cold was not a hindrance as over more than 15,000 crowds were rocking in at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Polo grounds till 10 pm. The concert is christened as the 'Festival of Rock' and was part of Meghalaya Autumn Festival - an annual gala event organized by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF). The concert was organized by Centre Point Entertainment Network (CPEN) in collaboration with Royal Tripura Heritage Foundation, Aircel and others.

Local heartthrob Amit Paul - the Indian Idol finalist shared the stage with the band, opening the festival backed by an equally proficient and experienced band from Mizoram - Magdelene. The famed local band - Snowwhite sharing the stage rocked the crowd with its melodious soft and hard rock music attracting lots of appreciation. Eric also sang duet with Amit and Timmy.   

Over the last few years, Shillong has witnessed bands like Fire House, MLTR, Petra, Paul Diano of AK-47 rocking Shillong like never before. Again Shillong will rock with Scorpions performing in this hill city on December 12.

Eric sharing the stage with the local bands felt that it was a privilege for him to perform with them. He said that Timmy of Snowwhite had a fabulous voice. He also said that he decided to come to Shillong when he learnt from band like Fire House that the crowd in Shillong understands and loves music.         November 2007
