Bangladesh wants connectivity upto Agartala

In a bid to develop Indo-Bangladesh trade relation Bangladesh Planning Commission was examining the road development project of 116 Crore Taka from Akhura (Agartala) Check Post to Brahmanbaria across the border.


State Commerce Minister Jitendra Choudhury told media here that Bangladesh Commerce Minister Lt Col (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan had assured him their government was giving priority in upgradation and renovation of 16 KM road inside Bangladesh, which connects Akhaura.

“I shall enquire the development of the project as soon as I reach in Dhaka because not only the business communities, both govt and people as a whole are very keen to come closer to Tripura and other parts of Northeast,” Mr Choudhury said.

He stated that Bangladesh had started formal trade through Belonia Check post in South Tripura by last month and the state govt had taken initiative for beginning trade in all other check posts of along Tripura - Bangladesh.

He however, underlined that India govt was keen to strengthen trade with Bangladesh and export of bricks had opened a new arena for both the country.  December 13, 2009
