Agartala, July 20, 2017: Ending 11-day long agitation, Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) that is demanding a separate state for Tripura's 33 percent tribal population lifted the highway and railway blockade. Party President NC Debbarma and senior leaders of the party ultimately convinced hundreds of party workers to end their agitation at Khanpingbari, 40km north of Agartala.

Riding on high emotion Debbarma announced that the Union Government is contemplating ‘Twipraland’ issue on the basis of a letter by the Governor Tathagata Roy.

On the other hand, West Tripura district magistrate imposed section 144 in the area and the officials also announced in the area with loudspeakers urging the protesters to disperse in the morning. Large number of security personnel was deployed for a possible forced eviction.

However, IPFT called off the blockade before security intervention. All political parties and social forums hailed withdrawal of blockade agitation that created havoc for people of the state for past 11 days.
