NF Railway helping states to deal with flood fury


Maligaon, August 18, 2017: As flood of unprecedented scale affects large areas of Bihar, West Bengal & Assam, N.F. Railway which has borne the brunt at many locations in its network continues to play a proactive role in helping State Governments to deal with the crisis.  In Bihar the railway has not only offered its rakes for movement of NDRF personnel along with their equipments, it has also allowed free of cost movement of fodder food and water across flood affected Bihar in response to the request of District authorities. 

Identified areas in stations of Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia and Katihar District have been earmarked for flood affected people to put up their camps.  Potable water is being supplied in stations in the flood affected areas for the consumption of the local people.  It is also to be mentioned that in the areas affected by flood, refund counters are being kept open round the clock for last five days to facilitate easy refund. 

As much as one crore worth of refund has been given every day during this period.

Meanwhile restoration work is going on in war footing in all locations. Restoration of bridge no -3 at Km 7/2-3 between Kuretha – Maniyan stations in Katihar – Malda Town section, which was damaged at 7-30 hrs on 16th August is expected to be completed today night. More than 1000 labours are working round the clock in this site. This bridge is crucial for train connectivity between Katihar and Malda Town. The flood affected section between Barsoi – Radhikapur was restored and certified fit at 11 am today.
