Assam police team in Tripura with Myanmar suspects

Agartala, August 21, 2017: A team of Assam police headed by a senior official arrived on Monday  at Sonamura, 50 km south of Agartala, in connection with the recent arrest of six Rohingya nationals. The team brought two of the detainees for physical identification of infiltration route and local contacts.

The team of Assam Police has traced a corridor in Tripura across Indo-Bangladesh border through which suspected trafficking and crossing over takes place, according to sources.

Six youths from Myanmar entered India through an unfenced border in Sonamura which is situated alongside Comilla district in southeast Bangladesh on Friday last, police said. The infiltrators were detained from a passenger bus at Karimganj during a regular checking on the following day.

Leader of Assam police team Manoj Rajbongshi refused to speak to media on investigation matters. Tripura police said they were cooperating with Assam counterparts.
