86th battalion of BSF adjudged best in Tripura

Agartala, August 29, 2017: Of 12 deployed battalions of BSF, 86th battalion has been adjudged best in Tripura state. The recognition gave the battalion opportunity to compete for the General Choudhary Trophy. 

The border force conducts the competition annually to ultimately choose one battalion for the trophy. The award is presented every year at Raising Day ceremony in Delhi on December 1.

86battalion is deployed along Bangladesh border in south Tripura. BSF officials said the battalion has displayed expertise in all categories marked for the competition during state round held on August 10 and 11.

Fitness of troopers, operational skill, and firing perfection are criteria to qualify in the next round.

U. C. Hazarika, Deputy Inspector General in the BSF’s Eastern Command with its headquarters in Berhampore, visited south Tripura on Tuesday to applaud success of 86th battalion. He congratulated Surender Kumar, Commanding Officer (CO) of 86battalion.  

DIG Hazarika also inspected deployment of the battalion on Indo – Bangla border. He also supervised its preparedness to compete in the next round.
