Indo - Bangla Meet on Trade

Agartala, June 20, 2010: The trains running in Tripura is nothing but toy trains and for further connectivity of the region with the neighboring country Bangladesh immediately it should be converted in broad gauge. Along with this direct air connectivity between this region and Bangladesh should also be started said Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

He was addressing a Stakeholder Consultation on Indo-Bangla Trade at Agartala. The meeting of the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh that followed saw a further deepening of bilateral cooperation, Mr. Sarkar added. While speaking on the occasion Tripura Industry Minister, Jitendra Choudhury said Indo-Bangla trade was started in the financial year 1995-96, then the turnover was 4 crore 12 lakh and in the last financial year it reached 148 crore 27 lakh.

The objectives of the meeting were to review recent developments in trade and investment involving India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. ML Debnath, the President of Tripura Chamber of Commerce along with his Bangladesh counterpart Matlub Ahmad, the Chief Secretary of Tripura S.K. Panda and dignitaries from various northeastern states were present on the occasion.
