Export development fund for Northeast

Agartala, July 15, 2010: 60 projects from the northeast regions have been approved under Export Development Fund for North East Region (EDF-NER) with the total assistance of Rs. 5793.78 lakh out of which Tripura has 7 projects with the total assistance of Rs. 713.19 crore.

This was disclosed by Addl. Secretary Commerce, Govt. of India, A.K. Mangotra at an Export awareness workshop on Scope & Opportunities from northeastern states of India , today in Agartala. India will construct the 150-metre-long bridge over Feni River at a cost of rupees 13.10 crores in southern Tripura to get access to the Chittagong international sea port in Bangladesh for carrying goods and heavy machineries for the land-locked northeastern region, Mr. Mangotra added.

Department of Border management is in the process of setting up a Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) under their control with the responsibility for managing the land ports into integrated check post on the land borders. Initially they have prioritized 13 Land Custom Stations (LCS) for their development into integrated check post and Akhaura check post in the out skirt of Agartala is one of them.
