Tripura by poll peaceful, 81.21% casting

Agartala, March 12, 2018: By poll in Charilam ST Constituency in Sepahijala district on Monday was peaceful, but casting was low in comparison to high rate of voting in February 18 assembly elections.

Five candidates contesting in the by poll which was necessary after death of CPI(M) candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma during campaign. CPI(M) filled Palash Debbarma in his place, but on Saturday pulled him out from contest citing relentless attacks and intimidation by BJP workers in the area.

Jishnu Debbarma is contesting as BJP nominee and he is expected to win by a huge margin with main contender staying out of poll. Debbarma was inducted in first BJP led coalition government as Deputy Chief Minister.
