Bangladeshi boys sneak into the runway

A Correspondent
Agartala, September 7, 2010: In a serious security breach four Bangladeshi boys found roaming along operational runway at Agartala airport which has proximity to the international border on Tuesday. Some workers engaged in a construction at the sterilized zone detected them and handed them over to the CISF who later forwarded them to police.

The boys aged between 14 and 16 are apparently very poor and collect garbage which is commonly seen in streets of Agartala. However security officials are anxious as to how they sneaked into most sensitive part of the airport.

“The boys have been forwarded to the court and we would act as per court's directive” Airport Police Station officer in charge Siddhartha Kar told newsmen. He said they have given their identities and all hail from different locations in Bangladesh.

The detainee boys have been identified as Rahim Mia, 16 and Biplab Haldar, 16, both from Jagatdal area and Mohammed Ujjal Mia, 14, of Jatrabari and Swapan Haldar,14, from Narshindi in Bangladesh.

Tripura is already reeling under security scanner following busting of an ISI hole that led to detention of a Pakistani national and his four Indian collaborators, and last week's arrest of a Bangladeshi suspect near the border in Agartala after his return from Jammu & Kashmir.

Normal operation of flights in Agartala was disrupted on Tuesday due to nationwide strike call by the national platform of mass organisations on different issues including price rise of essential commodities. The strike evoked complete response in entire state and was incident free.
