Internet hackers embarrass minister

Agartala, October 19, 2010: The hackers have caused a serious embarrassment to internet friendly Tripura industries and commerce minister Jitendra Choudhury as his hotmail id has been taken for sending mails seeking fund attributing his financial crisis.

Taking a strong exception to the cyber crime Tripura government has asked the Director General of Police to follow it up with the concerned agencies to track down the source of the hacking. “We have approached the DGP to pursue the matter”, minister Choudhury said Tuesday.

For a couple of days a request in name of Choudhury is sent to different people requesting for money as 'he' is stranded in Cyprus due to financial crunch. The hackers also gave total credentials of the minister and his contact and other details.

“I was first alerted by a friend in Canada, following by another in New York and one in Dubai. In fact the request is sent to about 300 people in my contact list and there are many recipients”, he stated adding he also lost many documents and information stored in his hotmail account.

The first ever serious internet hacking in Tripura also impacted minister's pages in social networking sites. “If the crime was committed from Cyprus it could be a general hacking, but if it is done locally its very serious”, Jitendra Choudhury commented.

The incident occurred within days state's outgoing DGP informed on sanction of a well equipped cyber forensic laboratory in Agartala. The laboratory expected to come up soon would help in investigation to complaints of cyber intrusions in a dispute.
