US Consul General to attend hornbill festival

Kohima, November 24, 2010: The Consul General at the US Consulate General Kolkata, Beth A. Payne will be attending the inaugural of the Hornbill Festival as the State Guest on December 1 at Kisama village in Nagaland. She will have a brief press interaction with the journalists at end of main function. 

Beth A. Payne assumed her duties as the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General Kolkata on August 1, 2008.  She is a career Foreign Service Officer who joined the U.S. State Department in 1993.  Her previous assignments include postings at the U.S. Embassies in Senegal, Rwanda, Israel and Kuwait.  In 2003, she opened the Office of the U.S. Consul in Baghdad, Iraq.  She also served in the Office of Children's Issues in the State Department in Washington DC.   

Ms. Payne is a native of Pennsylvania and enjoys photography, kayaking, hiking, cooking and traveling.  She is fluent in French.
