Police returns NESO delegation from Madhav Bari

Correspondent

Agartala, January 11, 2019: Top leaders of NESO (Northeast Students Organisation) failed to visit Madhav Bari, the flash point of recent violence in the state, on Friday after police prevented them well ahead of incident spot. AASU Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjee and a few other NESO leaders arrived here to assess the situation after security forces opened fire on protestors enforcing 12 hour strike against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that already passed in Lok Sabha.

“An undeclared emergency situation is prevailing in the state. We vehemently condemn the firing at Madhav Bari that left several people wounded”, Bhattacharjee told newsmen.

NESO leaders claimed security men opened fire without obtaining order from the Executive Magistrate. This is complete violation of law.

They demanded immediate withdrawal of cases registered against the protestors. The leaders said they will continue supporting the Twipra Students Federation (TSF), a NESO constituent which had called the strike in Tripura, in its strive to protect rights and identity of indigenous people.
