Nagaland to host first ever northeast youth festival

Nagaland state is to host the first ever North East Youth Festival, to be held from October 8 to 10 2009 at Kohima. The theme of the festival is 'Youth and Creativity'. Over 1600 participants and delegates from the eight North Eastern states, other Indian states and Union Territories will converge at Kohima for the mega event.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India and jointly organized by the Government of Nagaland, the National Service Scheme and the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, the three day event is being organised along the lines of the popular National Youth Festivals, which include competitive and non-competitive items in dance, music, elocution, handicraft fair, multi-cuisine food festival of India, one act plays, fashion shows and other events. The participants will be in the age group of 15 - 35 years.

The Indira Gandhi Stadium, nearby Multi-Purpose Halls, Archery Ground and Children's Park will be the venues for the various events. The National Youth Convention, an academic programme, is also to be held at the Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima. A unique feature of this Festival will be the Rock Band competition to be held under the aegis of the Music Task Force, Nagaland with Rupees One Lakh as prize money for the winning band.
