Peace rally are nothing new in Northeast, but in an unique for citizen of Agartala and Assam Rifles got together to run for bidding adieu the year going by and to usher in peace.
Brushing aside the winter chill and thick fog cover, school and college students, youths across Agartala today joined the officers and jawans of 21 sector Assam Rifles or a unique peace run to usher in peace in the region for the New Year and also commemorating the 175th anniversary of Assam Rifles.
The Agriculture Minister of Tripura Aghore Debbarma flagged off the peace run that was largely aimed to spread the message of peace and motivate people across Northeast.“Assam Rifles has completed 175 years and to mark this historic event a series of activites have been planned, one of these is the peace runs” says Brig. S.T Upasani, Brigadier of 21 Sector Assam Rifles.
Assam Rifles is the oldest paramilitary force in the country and is dedicatedly serving the Northeast. The local youths are also motivated with the way Assam Rifles is taking active part in building a better Northeast. “Today I we talk of peace then this kind of rally would bring awareness” says Sunil Kalai, local youth who took part in the run.
It seems that Assam Rifles is truly living to its name- the sentinels of Northeast. December 28, 2009
