Bangladesh industries minister in Tripura

Agartala, February 9, 2010: Bangladesh industries minister Dilip Barua has arrived here Tuesday to attend closing ceremony of the trade fair, but his visit assumed more significance in view of his government's promise to give more facilities in terms of transit and transport to northeast India. Barua after gracing the occasion held a meeting led by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and would address a joint meeting of business leaders from Tripura and Bangladesh.

This has been second visit of a top dignitary from Bangladesh, earlier being then Communication Minister Nazmul Huda on occasion of inauguration of Agartala - Dhaka passenger bus service in 2004. It is attributed that opening of international bus service was a landmark step towards expansion trade and connectivity between Bangladesh and northeast India.

Officials here said Tripura government Industry & Commerce Minister Jitendra Choudhury sent an invitation to Dilip Barua to be chief guest the valedictory session of the 20th trade and industry fair. Choudhury, team of officials and business representatives revived Baura and accompanying guests at Akhaura border.

The Agartala trade fair was inaugurated on January 30 with the theme 'Invest in green Tripura, open the door to Southeast Asia'. 205 entrepreneurs, 12 from Bangladesh participated in the fair.

Taking advantages of intensives offered by the government of India and market feasibilities, soft drink and beverage giant in Bangladesh PRAN has completed all formalities to install a factory at Bodhjungnagar near Agartala. PRAN products have already made a dent in Tripura and other parts of northeast.

Bangladesh's Nitol-Niloy group has signed a memorandum of understanding with two entrepreneurs last month for setting up an Rs.70 crore Tyre factory at Bodhjungnagar. Group's chairman and also Indo-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Abdul Matlub Ahmed accompanied Minister Dilip Barua.
