EC sanctions more security forces for east Tripura poll

AGARTALA, April 19, 2019: Election Commission of India has sanctioned more paramilitary contingents for deployment in east Tripura Lok Sabha constituency going to polls on April 23 after sudden postponement for five days. Officials said 28 companies of forces would arrive in the state in day or two.
New batch is in addition to existing forces marked for the constituency which was earlier marked for voting in phase 2 of elections. Election Commission in its notification cited reports of state CEO and special police observer which attributed serious law and order situation in the east tribal reserved constituency.
Officials added that the deployment of security forces in east Tripura would highest ever in election history in the state. They reiterated commission’s commitment to hold free and fair elections in the state.
