AGARTALA, May 12, 2019: Repoll in 168 polling stations under west Tripura Lok Sabha constituency held on Sunday amid tight security cover. Paramilitary forces were deployed in all booths spread over 26 of 30 assembly constituencies.
Election commission reported almost 73 percent casting, but the figure may vary after compilation of final reports from the ground.
The commission ordered re-polls in 168 polling stations based on reports of CEO, RO and its observers including special observer Vinod Zutshi who was specially sent to take final call on complaints of massive rigging, malpractices and violation of mode code of conduct.
CPI(M) and Congress – major opposition parties in the state – demanded fresh election in entire west constituency. They also moved Supreme Court for urgent intervention, but got their pleas listed as regular litigations.
These two parties and even ruling BJP complained attacks and intimidation on re-poll day. Election Commission however said re-poll exercise in Tripura has been peaceful.
