A
new Guinness world record was set with some 8,000 drummers
performing for more than five minutes
in perfect rhythm. The previous record by 7, 727 drummers was
created in February 2005 by Po Leung Kuk, a charity organisation
in Hong Kong helping orphaned children.
Representative of the Guinness Book of World Record, Michael
Whitty, officially endorsed the record. The drummers played a
tune called 'Positive Vibrations' for almost 20 minutes composed
by a local musician, Rudy Wallang, at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports
Complex at
Shillong, capital of India's northeastern Meghalaya state,
October 28 2006.
Rudy Wahlang composed the 'Positive Vibrations' as per Guinness
rules.
'The partakers included professionals, school children and
ordinary people. There were about 1,000 indigenous drums played
alongside the normal small drums,' an excited event official
Aiban S. Mawkhroh said. The gala was watched by 20,000 people.
"Let
the drum beats bring the people of the region together" was
the call of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum or MTDF.
The
assembly also kicked off the state's week-long Autumn Festival
that traditionally have events like water sports, kite flying,
fishing, archery, besides jugglers and entertainers from
Australia.Indigenousherald.com congratulates the MTDF and all
participants for achieving the laurel. |
