AGARTALA: Tripura Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath Monday flagged off the export of 15,000 scented lemons from Agartala to Kolkata initiated through the collaboration of the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency and Baramura Organic Produces Company Limited.

This export involves approximately 80 farmers cultivating on 100 hectares, primarily in the South Hadrai and Hawaibari areas of Khowai district.

Minister Nath highlighted agriculture's critical role in India citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement about its foundational importance. Under the 'Prabashi Tripura' initiative led by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Nath expressed respect for farmers, stating that their contribution is vital for food security.

Following this shipment, another consignment of 15,000 lemons is anticipated.

Minister highlighted a significant increase in organic farming, which has grown from 2,000 hectares to over 20,000 hectares since 2018, and reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing farmers' incomes through market support and fair pricing. Attendees at the event included Tripura Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy and Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy.
