39th edition of the Agartala Book Fair opened

AGARTALA, February 26 2021: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb Friday inaugurated the 39th edition of the Agartala Book Fair 2021. The fair got underway under the theme ‘Amar Tripura, Sresta Tripura’ (My Tripura, Best Tripura).

Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of the Book Fair Steering Committee Jishnu Debbarman, senior Minister NC Debbarma and several dignitaries were present at the inauguration programme.

Taking cue of last year, the fair, which has been biggest and oldest in northeast India, was organised at the International Trade Fair Centre at Hafania. It will end on March 11.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Deb said that the books in old pattern are still relevant despite advancement of the internet and online facilities which gave a platform to e-book. He stated that his government distributed books on Swami Vivekananda among the coronavirus patients as to keep them mentality upright.

Bir Chandra Central Library and district libraries are getting a facelift, he informed. Chief Minister appealed to people to visit the fair ground and buy books within their limit.

The Agartala book fair was opened with 166 stalls and some theme pavilions including one from Bangladesh. The fair will remain open from 2.30 pm to 9 pm on working days and from 2 pm to 9.30 pm on holidays. 

Cultural shows to be presented by the artists from Tripura and from across country and neighbouring Bangladesh will be happening every evening. Besides, Kabi Sammelan and seminars will also be organised daily.
