
NATIONAL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday held extensive discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur focusing on various sectors including political, defense, trade, digital economy and education. Both leaders committed to 16 agreements related to disaster management, corruption prevention and semiconductors, and stressed enhanced cooperation on intelligence sharing, maritime security and counter-terrorism.
Modi noted India's commitment to ASEAN centrality and expressed intentions to complete the review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement promptly. The talks culminated in a Joint Statement reaffirming the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and outlining cooperation in infrastructure, renewable energy and emerging technologies like semiconductors and digital tech.
Prime Minister also interacted with business leaders and announced the opening of a new Indian consulate along with the launch of the Thiruvalluvar Scholarship to strengthen educational ties. The visit highlighted the strong cultural and people-to-people connections between India and Malaysia.
