Due to an existing travel ban under UN Security Council sanctions

GLOBAL, September 06, 2025: Afghan foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi's planned visit to India this month has been postponed due to an existing travel ban on him under UN Security Council sanctions. The visit would have been the first ministerial visit from Kabul to India since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in August 2021.
The UN Security Council has imposed sanctions against all leading Taliban leaders and they need to secure a waiver for foreign travel. India has longstanding ties with Afghanistan and continues to support its people's aspirations and developmental needs.
India however has not yet recognised the Taliban government and has been advocating for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
