CM Zoramthanga pays tribute to legendary Laldenga

AIZAWL, July 07 2020 (HS): Mizoram observed the 30th death anniversary of its first Chief Minister Laldenga on Tuesday. Remembering him fondly, Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweeted that Laldenga was a Mizo politician and founder of Mizo National Front.
He started his career with the Indian Army where he joined as Havildar and later resigned and joined civil services as account clerk under the district council office in Aizawl.
Laldenga signed tripartite Mizoram peace accord on June 30 1986 to end two decades of insurgency. Subsequently, Mizoram was granted statehood in 1987 and MNF won the first election to state assembly.
He died on July 7 1990 due to lung cancer.
