COAS Manoj Pande arrives in violence hit Manipur
135 columns of Army, AR deployed in state to defuse tension

IMPHAL, May 27 2023: COAS Lieutenant General Manoj Pande arrived in Imphal Saturday to review current situation in Manipur which has been devastated by cycle of violence. He would interact with his field commanders and senior officials of the security establishments during his two day stay.
Pande arrived on a day Army and the Assam Rifles launched intelligence specific operations to flush out militants and armed groups which are instigating violence. 71 people of different ethnic communities have died, scores injured and thousands left homeless in violence and targeted attacks in Manipur since May 3 last.
Curfew despite specific relaxations remained imposed in most parts of Manipur and suspension of internet extended for another five days.
Amid tension, residents at several places held peace rallies Saturday.
Army and Assam Rifles have deployed total 135 columns in Manipur to restore peace and enforce prohibitory orders including curfew. They are also carrying out relief and rehabilitation activities in strife torn areas.
