Preparations completed for counting of EVM and postal votes

AIZAWL, December 03 2023: The counting of votes for Mizoram assembly polls will be taken up tomorrow morning after a postponement for a day considering Christian prayer rituals of the majority residents of the state. Counting will be done for all 40 constituencies of the state they went to poll on November 7 as being first in a chain of elections across the five states.
The election office here Sunday announced completion of preparations. The ECI appointed central observers are stationed in places of their deployment.
According to exit poll predictions; the ruling MNF has the advantage with 14-18 seats, followed by regional ZPM (10-14) and Congress 9-13. It gave BJP a maximum two seats.
The Office of the CEO informed that Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer, Counting Supervisor, Counting Assistant, Micro-Observer and those in important duties will be present at the centres. Security personnel will be deployed in three shifts at each counting centre.
Media Centres have been set up at places of counting to help newsmen to transact news assignments hassle free.
The Commissioner of Excise & Narcotics has enforced a ban on sales and consumption of alcohol till completion of the election process. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will continue to be in force in Mizoram until December 5 2023.
