Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, 81, dies

NATIONAL, August 04, 2025: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, 81, passed away after a prolonged illness Monday. He breathed his last at a private hospital in New Delhi.
The President and the Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences and praised Soren's passion for empowering tribal communities, the poor and the downtrodden.
Leaders of various political parties paid tribute to the veteran political doyen on his demise. They paid respect to the departed soul at the hospital.
Soren was admitted to the Sri Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi in the last week of June with a kidney-related issue. He was the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for 38 years and was the party's founding patron.
He served as Chief Minister from 2005 to 2010. Born in the Ramgarh district, Soren joined forces with Leftist trade unionist AK Roy and Kurmi Mahato leader Binod Bihari Mahato in 1972 to establish the JMM.
