NATIONAL, June 27, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah Friday expressed pride that India will host the 2029 World Police and Fire Games highlighting it as a significant achievement for the country. He stated that this recognition reflects the country's strong sports infrastructure developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Ahmedabad has been chosen as the venue for this event, which will feature police, fire and disaster services competing in over 50 sport events.
The World Police and Fire Games occur every two years, with 20 editions held since 1985, primarily in the USA, Canada, and parts of Europe. These games are open to current and retired personnel from various emergency services. The Indian Police first participated in these games in 2007 and has since achieved substantial success, winning over 1,400 medals across eight editions, including a record 343 medals at the latest games in Winnipeg, Canada, in 2023.
Selections for the Indian contingent to the World Police and Fire Games are based on performances in the annual All India Police Games. The All India Police Sports Control Board organizes these games, involving 53 member organizations, and gold medal winners are shortlisted for the Indian team.
