AGARTALA, September 26, 2025: Tripura Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Friday declared efforts to make the state self-sufficient in mushroom production by transitioning to organic cultivation. The statement was made during the inauguration of the first training workshop on organic mushroom cultivation at the Horticulture Research Complex attended by 53 Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs).
Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, before 2018 the state had only four FPCs, but this number has now risen to 53. The Minister asserted the nutritional value of mushrooms referring to them as a "superfood" rich in Vitamin D, iron and other nutrients.
He noted that while the state has achieved self-sufficiency in products like milk, rice, fish and eggs, it still falls short in mushroom production—a need the training aims to address.
The workshop is part of a larger initiative to incorporate mushroom cultivation into the organic farming sector, which currently covers 26,000 hectares. The state has exported substantial quantities of organic produce, and the Minister reiterated the importance of organic farming for health and sustainability, paving the way for more mushroom cultivation under organic practices.
