
AGARTALA: Tripura government has implemented significant measures to boost flower production resulting in a 332% increase in cultivation over the past seven years. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said after inaugurating of the Centre of Floriculture and Landscaping at Gakulpur in Udaipur, Gomati district Saturday.
He highlighted that farmers are benefitting from increased demand and better market prices for flowers. The state's conducive climate and fertile soil are conducive to cultivating various flowers, including traditional ones like Marigold, Gladiolus and Rose, as well as high-tech varieties such as Anthurium and Orchid.
The government has constructed facilities such as an arcadium and a hardening center in Badharghat Garden, aimed at improving flower quality and supporting farmers in meeting local demand. The Centre of Excellence on Flowers, currently under development in Lembuchara, will serve as a hub for training and providing high-quality seedlings at affordable prices, minister stated.
He added that the government underlines importance of flower cultivation for income generation and self-reliance among farmers with each farmer reportedly earning an average monthly profit exceeding Rs 10,000 from projects spanning 200 square meters. The agriculture minister asserts that investments and initiatives will continue to enhance the floriculture sector in Tripura securing its status as a high-tech hub for flower production.
