
REGIONAL: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong, concluded its annual festival, Fashion Spectrum 2026, with a vibrant closing ceremony that celebrated talent, teamwork and creative excellence. The two-day festival saw enthusiastic participation from students of NIFT and other reputed institutions, transforming the campus into a dynamic space for performance, competition and artistic exchange.
Frederick Roy Kharkongor, Principal Secretary, Textiles Department, Meghalaya, praised the theme "ZAP!" as a symbol of modern complexities and opportunities for creativity. He highlighted Meghalaya's Ryndia silk, a GI-tagged, eco-friendly textile driven by women artisans.
He proposed a "Best Designer Award of Meghalaya" to encourage designers to engage with local textiles. Addressing students, he encouraged them to be pathbreakers, embracing exploration, creativity, and individuality, calling them "shape-shifters" and "luminants" who inspire through imagination and presence.
In his address, Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary of the North Eastern Council (NEC), remarked that every moment of life is like a fashion show, where individuals continuously express themselves through their choices and actions. Reflecting on the theme “ZAP,” he described it as “Zile Abhi Ka Pal, Kal Ho Na Ho,” encouraging students to live fully in the present and make the most of every opportunity.
Brigadier Vikas Rai Shandilya, Commandant, Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong, Aimeka Dkhar, Asst Director Cottage Industries and S Kharpran Functional Manager, Shillong, graced the occasion with their presence.
The valedictory ceremony closed with a reflection of the festival, followed by the announcement and felicitation of winners across various categories. Applause and celebration filled the amphitheatre as participants were recognised for their creativity, discipline and sportsmanship.
The event not only showcased individual brilliance but also encouraged the importance of collective effort and institutional pride. Highlight of the ceremony was a mesmerising Fashion Show, marking the formal grand finale of Fashion Spectrum 2026.
The Campus Director, Dr Brijesh Deore, said “Fashion Spectrum reflects the vibrancy of our academic community. The enthusiasm, discipline and teamwork demonstrated by our students reaffirm the strength of experiential learning at NIFT Shillong. As the celebrations drew to an end, the campus carried forward a renewed sense of energy, camaraderie and creative confidence that will continue to inspire the NIFT Shillong community in the days ahead.
