
IMPHAL: Imphal will host the Fit India Carnival 2026 from March 8-10 with a Mega Sundays on Cycle rally on International Women’s Day at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex followed by a two-day carnival proposed to be held at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound, bringing together citizens, students and fitness enthusiasts in a celebration of fitness, wellness and community participation.
The three-day programme is being organised under the nationwide Fit India Movement, which was launched by the Prime Minister on August 29, 2019 with the aim of making fitness an integral part of daily life and encouraging behavioural change towards a healthier and more physically active society.
The Mega Sundays on Cycle rally on March 8 will mark the opening of the celebrations while also commemorating International Women’s Day, encouraging greater participation of women and young people in cycling and outdoor physical activity.
The Fit India Carnival on March 9-10 will feature a wide range of interactive activities designed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being and awareness about healthy lifestyles. Participants will be able to take part in Zumba sessions, Yoga workshops, structured exercise routines and interactive fitness challenges led by certified trainers and fitness experts.
Traditional games and regionally inspired activities will also form part of the programme, creating an inclusive and engaging environment for people of all age groups.
Fit India Carnivals have been organised in several cities across the country, encouraging large-scale public engagement around fitness and wellness. The Northeast region has emerged as a strong contributor to the movement, with the recent Fit India Carnival in Guwahati witnessing enthusiastic participation from citizens and students. Building on that momentum, Imphal now carries the movement forward, reinforcing the region’s growing commitment to fitness and active lifestyles.
The carnival will also feature cultural presentations celebrating the diversity of the Northeast, along with music and entertainment segments that will contribute to the festive atmosphere of the event.
Speaking about the programme, the official authority from the Sports Authority of India, North-East Regional Centre (SAI NERC), Imphal, Manipur said the carnival aims to bring communities together through the shared spirit of fitness and well-being. "Beginning with the Mega Sundays on Cycle rally on International Women’s Day and followed by two days of carnival activities, the event seeks to inspire people across Manipur to adopt active and healthy lifestyles," the official said.
The event is expected to attract students, families, fitness enthusiasts and members of the wider community, further strengthening the reach of the Fit India Movement across Manipur and the Northeast region.
