PM lays foundation stone of Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project

NATIONAL, December 21, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project in Assam at Namrup in Assam marking a significant milestone for the region’s industrial progress. During his address, he paid homage to the historical heroes of Assam and expressed gratitude for the warmth shown by the local community particularly noting the presence of women bringing the essence of Assam’s tea gardens.

He asserted that this project symbolizes the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream for Namrup and Dibrugarh heralding a new era of development.

The Prime Minister stressed the new industrial momentum in Assam, mentioning his prior inauguration of the new terminal at Guwahati Airport as reflective of this growth. He acknowledged the critical historical role of Assam and predicted its importance in a developed India, with advances in industry, infrastructure, agriculture and tourism paving the way for future opportunities.
Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers through farmer-centric schemes and ensuring a stable supply of fertilizers with a projected investment of approximately ₹11,000 crore for the project that aims to produce over 12 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer annually.

He highlighted the job creation potential of the Namrup facility, projecting that it will generate numerous local employment and self-employment opportunities, significantly benefiting the youth.

Modi questioned previous governmental neglect of such farmer welfare initiatives, highlighting Namrup's long-standing role as a fertilizer production hub and reaffirming the government's dedication to enhancing agricultural support for the community.
