ECI showcases over 1,000 BLOs in West Bengal for non-compliance

Warned them of legal action if unsatisfactory responses are received

NATIONAL, October 22, 2025: The Election Commission has issued show cause notices to over 1,000 Booth Level Officers (BLO) in West Bengal for non-compliance with the Commission's directives. The recruitment process began in April, but the erring BLOs failed to take over their charge until October 17.

If unsatisfactory responses are received, legal action will be taken under the Representation of the People Act of 1950, the ECI warned.

A Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list is expected to begin nationwide. The commission is monitoring the electoral process and holding an emergency meeting with Chief Electoral Officers from all states except Bihar.
