Government to protect citizens from malicious actors in cyber world

NATIONAL, December 03, 2025: The union government Wednesday informed that it has decided not to make pre-installation mandatory for mobile manufacturers due to the increasing acceptance of Sanchar Saathi. The government had mandated the pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi app on all smartphones in order to provide access to cybersecurity for all citizens.
It argues that this app is secure and solely intended to protect citizens from malicious actors in the cyber world. It promotes "Jan bhagidari" by allowing citizens to report any suspicious activity and protects users themselves.
The app has no other function and can be removed at any time by the user, the government has clarified. Currently, 1.4 crore users have downloaded the app and are reporting 2000 fraud incidents per day.
The number of users is rapidly increasing and the mandate for pre-installation was meant to expedite this process and make the app easily accessible to less tech-savvy citizens. In just one day, 6 lakh citizens have registered to download the app, which is a 10x increase in its uptake.
“This demonstrates the trust citizens have in the app, provided to them by the government for their protection.”
