Tripura Markfed inks MoU with the BBSSL to on seeds

Also to promote upkeep of traditional varieties through framework

AGARTALA, December 03, 2025: Tripura State Co-operative Marketing Federation (Tripura Markfed) Ltd recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL). The purpose of this MoU is to improve the quality of seeds and increase agricultural productivity in the State.

The agreement aims to ensure the availability of high-quality seeds, enhance crop productivity and promote the conservation of traditional varieties through a cooperative framework. 

The MoU was signed in the presence of Avijit Deb, Chairman of Tripura MARKFED and the members of the Board of Directors. Dr Omveer Singh, Advisor of BBSSL, signed on behalf of BBSSL while Jogesh Reang, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Tripura and Managing Director of The State Co-operative Marketing Federation of Tripura (Tripura Markfed) Ltd signed on behalf of Tripura Markfed Ltd. 

During the event Avijit Deb stated that this collaboration would benefit the cooperative movement and farmers by providing them with certified, high-quality seeds. 

Dr Omveer Singh asserted that BBSSL is dedicated to strengthening the seed sector including the conservation of traditional crops. He also mentioned that this partnership would have a special focus on Tripura's traditional crops.
