REGIONAL: ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) has developed “CIFRI CAGEGROW,” a floating fish feed to support scientific fish farming. To promote this feed among tribal fish farmers in Meghalaya, ICAR-CIFRI, in partnership with the Department of Fisheries, organised a “Field Day-cum-input distribution programme” Wednesday at Mawpun, Meghalaya.
The event aimed to assist underprivileged fish farmers in the aspirational Ri-Bhoi district. Key officials involved included the Director of ICAR-CIFRI, the Director of Fisheries in Meghalaya and several scientists and technical officers.
The programme was attended by 70 participants including fish farmers and officials. During the opening session, Grikjang stressed the importance of collaboration for fisheries development and thanked ICAR-CIFRI for their support. Dr Pronob Das discussed the program's objectives and the Institute's research and extension efforts. Farmers expressed gratitude to ICAR-CIFRI, seeking ongoing technological support.
In technical discussions, scientists explained the advantages of CIFRI CAGEGROW feed and fish farming techniques. During an interactive session, queries from farmers were addressed, with encouragement to practice sustainable fish farming.
In total, 5,000 kg of CIFRI CAGEGROW feed was distributed to 50 tribal fish farmers, with expectations of improved fish production and farmer income.
