AGARTALA: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha announced that the state government is implementing measures to eliminate mosquitoes in Agartala. Speaking at the state assembly session Friday, he detailed the regular cleaning and monitoring of drains within the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
Stagnant water especially post-rainy and dry seasons, contributes to mosquito proliferation, and while covered drains are predominant, some areas remain uncovered, complicating the issue, Chief Minister said.
To combat this, the government has allocated Rs 10 crore for the years 2024-25 and 2025-26 specifically for city clean-up efforts. Preventive measures include regular cleaning of roads, markets and drains along with continuous spraying of larvicides and fogging to eliminate adult mosquitoes.
Dr Said that public health committees have been established to oversee these initiatives. The Health Department is distributing mosquito nets, launching awareness campaigns against stagnant water, releasing Gambusia fish to curb mosquito breeding and urging community participation in maintaining cleanliness.
Directions have also been issued to ward secretaries and sanitary inspectors to enhance vigilance in managing drainage systems, Chief Minister added.
