Doordarshan celebrating its 65th anniversary Sunday
It now operates 35 satellite channels and 22 Regional channels

NATIONAL, September 15, 2024: Doordarshan, India's largest broadcasting entity, is celebrating its 65th anniversary Sunday. Established on September 15, 1959 it marked the beginning of India's broadcasting era and was initially a part of All India Radio.
In 1976, it became a separate department in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and later came under Prasar Bharati. Doordarshan now operates 35 satellite channels, including six All India channels and 22 Regional channels.
It also operates six Regional channels and one International channel, with 59 transmitters. Additionally, Doordarshan runs the DD DTH service "DD Free Dish" from the Earth Station in Todapur, Delhi. Despite limited resources and technology, Doordarshan has delivered content to generations and continues to play a vital role in creating awareness.
Shows like Ramayana, Mahabharat, Hum Log, Buniyaad, Malgudi Days, and Udaan have set a benchmark for quality content.
