Parents must pay attention to check menace of drug habit: CM
Said need of Red Ribbon Clubs in schools and colleges to fight HIV/AIDS

AGARTALA, August 12, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has urged parents to pay special attention to their children in the fight against drug addiction and underscored the importance of increasing Red Ribbon Clubs in schools and colleges to fight HIV/AIDS. He attended a state-level Bell of Awareness programme organised by the Tripura State AIDS Control Society on occasion of International Youth Day here Tuesday.
Dr Saha expressed concern about the spread of HIV in the northeastern region including Tripura, which currently ranks fourth among the eight states of the region. He stressed the need for parents to be cautious about drug use as it can lead to addiction.
Dr Saha also urged parents to monitor their children's activities and increase their self-confidence to resist drugs. He also urged teachers to be informed about the issue. The AIDS Control Society has created awareness among 2,31,000 students from Class 8 to 12 in 1,187 government and government-aided schools.
He also noted that about 3,433 HIV/AIDS-infected people in Tripura have been provided with a monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 so far.
Eminent doctors and officials, including Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Education Department Special Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, Education Director NC Sharma, NHM Mission Director Saju Wahid A, Health Director Dr Tapan Majumdar, Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Department In-charge Dr Nirmal Sarkar and Tripura AIDS Control Society Project Director Dr Binita Chakma were present as distinguished guests at the event.
