Remal devastations, central assessment team in Mizoram
State government sought ₹237.6 crore to cover requirements for rebuilding

AIZAWL, June 22, 2024: Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga of DM&R Saturday met with a central Inter-Ministerial Team and State Government representatives to discuss the aftermath of Cyclone Remal in Mizoram. He briefed the team on the devastating effects of the disaster on the state's roads, water supply, electricity and infrastructure, as well as the damage to ongoing projects.
Minister expressed his shock at the extent of damage and thanked the central team for their presence and willingness to assess the damage on location. The disaster claimed the lives of 34 people and caused significant damage to public and private property.
The Home and Urban Development Minister informed the officials that much financial support would be needed for rehabilitation and repair, with a minimum sum of ₹237.6 crore estimated to cover the requirements for rebuilding.
The Inter-Ministerial Team, headed by Abhijit Sinha, included representatives from various departments, including DM&R, PWD, PHED, P&ED, Agriculture and Horticulture.
